GETTYSBURG, Pa. - Playing in their second trimatch of the season, the Swarthmore women's volleyball team went 1-1, capturing a win against Gettysburg College 3-1 before coming up short in their match against Stevenson University, 0-3.
Facing off against Centennial rival Gettysburg, the Garnet were led offensively by sophomore
Trisha Razdan and junior
Dani Pena, with Razdan tallying 18 kills and Pena putting up 36 assists. Defensively, both Razdan and first year Zhindi Montgomery blocked a shot while first year
Ellie Streeper notched 14 digs.
In their match against Stevenson, the Garnet were driven offensively by juniors
Kaylee Zhang and Pena, who led the team with 10 kills and 22 assists respectively. On defense, Swarthmore was anchored by first-year
Nora Larson, Zhang and Pena, all of whom tallied seven digs.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Taking the first set in commanding fashion, Swarthmore seized the lead and never relinquished it. While both squads saw some success with the Garnet leading by just two at 9-7, Swarthmore exploded offensively, going on a 11-4 run to take a 20-11 lead. While Gettysburg shrunk the margin slightly to seven points, the Garnet's advantage proved insurmountable, taking the set 25-17.
- The teams split the next two sets, with both periods being decided by a combined six points. For the second set, neither team was able to pull away, with the lead changing six times throughout the period. While the Bullets found some daylight with an 18-15 lead, a Garnet rally pushed Swarthmore to a 20-18 lead which they rode to a 25-23 set win.
- In set number three, the teams traded extended rallies that saw both four-point and five-point runs from both squads. While Gettysburg pulled ahead 19-9, the Garnet kept pace over the next six serves to shrink the lead to 21-16. A 3-0 run from the Bullets gave them seven set points, which the stubborn Garnet did not let them capitalize on until they had finished a 5-0 rally of their own, with Gettysburg finally closing out the set 25-21.
- Looking to close out the match, the Garnet dominated the fourth set offensively right off the bat, jumping out to a quick 9-2 lead. While the Bullets answered back, shrinking the Swarthmore lead to 18-16, a 7-2 Garnet run closed out the set 25-18, and the match 3-1.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Taking on a team that had received top 25 votes in the most recent AVCA National Poll, the Garnet had its work cut out for them against Stevenson. In the first set, Swarthmore jumped out to a 7-3 lead off of multiple points from Zahng, before Stevenson came storming back to tie the set at seven all. The teams would trade points back and forth with neither squad able to take more than a two point lead until the Mustangs pulled ahead 21-18. The Garnet would pull the score within one, but would not be able to retake the lead, with Stevenson closing out the set 25-22.
- The Mustangs took an early lead right off the bat in the second set and never relinquished it, leading by as many as nine points. While the Garnet offense saw some success, making three two-point runs, the Garnet were unable to overcome the deficit as Stevenson took the set 25-18.
- Both squads came out of the gate strong in the third set, going blow for blow through the first half of the period to tie the score at 12-all. Riding an offensive wave however, Stevenson would go on a 14-3 run to close out the set 25-15.
