BALTIMORE, Md. - Coming up short for the first time since Sept. 3rd, the Swarthmore women's volleyball team lost to #25 Johns Hopkins three sets to none on Saturday, Sept. 24th.
On offense, the Garnet were led by sophomore
Trisha Razdan with nine kills and junior
Kaylee Zhang with seven, while junior
Dani Pena tallied 20 assists. Both Zhang and Pena shone on the defensive side of the ball as well, with both putting up nine digs on the day.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Both teams started off the first trading points back and forth before a 5-0 Blue Jays run put Johns Hopkins up 8-4. Despite the Garnet offense holding their own and keeping the game close, even themselves going on two 3-0 runs, they were never able to fully close the gap, as Johns Hopkins took the set number one 25-19
- The second set saw Johns Hopkins jump out to an early 6-1 lead, a margain that the Garnet were never able to fully overcome. While some Swarthmore offensive success saw the gap close to as few as three points at a scoreline of 23-20, the effort was not enough as the Blue Jays took the set 25-20.
- Looking to close out the third set and with it the match, Johns Hopkins jumped out to an early 7-3 lead. While Swarthmore came within one, trailing the Blue Jays 7-8, it was not enough to stop the #25 offense in the country as Hopkins took the set 25-15, and the match 3-0.
- The Garnet are now 1-1 in Centennial Conference play, 8-3 overall.
