Volleyball Wins Seventh-Straight, Montgomery Sets Career-Highs

SWARTHMORE, Pa. - The Swarthmore College volleyball team picked up their seventh-straight victory as the team swept Cabrini University, 3-0, on Wednesday night.

The Garnet were tested early in sets one and two, but were able to regroup as they cruised to their fourth-straight sweep. Zindzhi Montgomery set career-highs with seven kills and a team-high six blocks as she was a force on both offense and defense.

The reigning Centennial Player of the Week Kaylee Zhang led the offense with 14 kills, while Jordan Perry added 10 kills to reach double-figures. Dani Pena continued to pace the Garnet with 32 assists.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Cabrini took a 6-5 lead early in the set until the Garnet rallied for five-unanswered points to gain separation. Swarthmore maintained pressure as they built its lead to 17-12 and forced Cabrini to take the game's first timeout. However, Cabrini came out of the timeout firing as they put together four-straight points, which led to a Garnet timeout. The Cavs then regained the lead until Perry's ace put the Garnet in front, 19-18. The Cavs used their final timeout after Montgomery added a kill and a block on consecutive points to take a three-point lead. Montgomery then closed out the set with her second kill to claim the opening stanza, 25-22.

- The Cavs took another early lead with five-straight points, 11-8. The Garnet later tied the game and then took the lead with back-to-back kills from Perry. Grace Hegland returned from a Cavs timeout with an ace to give Swarthmore its largest lead at the time, 19-14. Montgomery and Trisha Razdan went on to clinch the set with a double-block to cap off four-straight points, 25-18.

- Swarthmore opened the third set with four-straight points with kills from Razdan and Perry. Moments later, Perry capped off a 3-0 Swarthmore rally to force the Cavs to take a timeout, 10-3. The Garnet put together five-unanswered points following a Zhang kill, which forced Cabrini to take its final timeout, 18-8. The Garnet cruised to victory with 11-straight points, before closing out the set with a Cabrini attack error, 25-9.
