Volleyball Opens Conference Play with Dominating Victory

SWARTHMORE, Pa. - The Swarthmore College women's volleyball team won its six-straight contest as they swept McDaniel College, 3-0, in dominating fashion to open their Centennial Conference schedule on Saturday afternoon.

The Garnet tallied 12 service aces, while holding the Green Terror to just one. They also totaled 40 kills on the afternoon and surrendered a season-low 18 kills.

Dani Pena set the tone with another stellar performance as the team's lead setter. The junior tallied 34 assists and added three kills for the Garnet. Trisha Razdan and Kaylee Zhang also had big performances with double-digit kills. Razdan led the team with 13 kills, while Zhang added 11 for the match. 

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Garnet put together five-straight points to build an early 7-3 advantage. Ellie Streeper had two aces, while Razdan had two kills and Jordan Perry added another kill during the team's 5-0 stretch. The Green Terror fought back and pulled within one point, before Swarthmore put together another five-unanswered points to rebuild its lead. The Garnet went on to close out the set with a comfortable victory, 25-15.

- Swarthmore dominated the second set from start to finish as they cruised to a 25-9 victory. The set win was fueled an early 11-0 run, which gave the team a 19-4 advantage. Perry served during the stretch as she collected two service aces. Razdan capped off the set with two-straight kills and totaled four during the second stanza. 

- Both teams exchanged points early in the third set as neither team was able to gain much separation. The Garnet eventually put together an 8-2 run, which gave them a seven-point advantage over the Green Terror. Razdan and Angelina Heminway opened the run with back-to-back kills, while Zhang closed the rally with a kill. McDaniel attempted a late comeback with four-straight points as they pulled within four of the lead, 20-16. However, the Garnet remained in control as they rallied off five-straight points for the victory, 25-16. Razdan and Zhang each had a pair of kills in the team's closing run.
