Swarthmore Drops Tight Battle Against #12 Johns Hopkins, 1-0

SWARTHMORE, Pa. - The Swarthmore College men's soccer team fell to #12 Johns Hopkins University in their Centennial Conference opener on Saturday night.

Max Kral made four saves in 90 minutes of action. The Blue Jays generated nine shots, while the garnet fired off six attempts in an evenly contested matchup. 

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Kral defused an early scoring opportunity with a diving stop in the 14th minute. Later in the half, Matthew Loreg made several defensive stops near the box as he wrestled the ball away from Blue Jay attackers on several occasions. 

- The Blue Jays opened the scoring on a penalty shot in the 24th minute. The Garnet were outshot 5-1 in the opening half. 

- The Garnet generated a scoring chance early in the second half. Leo Hecht played the ball into the box off a free kick from midfield and found the foot of Kaito Hikino, who played a pass just wide to the left of the keeper. Swarthmore had another look at the net in the 65th minute, when Hecht played a shot wide of the goal. 

- Sean Nolan prevented a potential goal when he got in front of a Blue Jays attacker from five yards out and blocked the shot in the 69th minute. Moments later, Loreg played a cross just wide from the far side as he nearly connected with Freddie Lin. 

- Oliver Clackson beat a couple defenders and got a look at the net in the 80th minute. Clackson tried to beat the keeper high, but had his attempt saved. Later in the half, Bless Tumushable generated another shot on goal, but had the attempt saved.
