Women’s Soccer Wins Brick City Classic with 5-0 Victory

NEWARK, NJ - The Swarthmore College women's soccer team remained unbeaten as they captured their fifth-straight victory with a 5-0 win over Rutgers-Newark on Sunday. The win marks the Garnet's third-consecutive clean sheet as the defense has gone a full week without conceding a goal.

Kim Kockenmeister and Jacinta Fernandes-Brough led the charge with a pair of goals, while Eloise Franz added her first goal of the season. Fernandes-Brough scored for the second-straight game as she caps off a three-goal weekend. Kockenmeister also put together her second multi-goal game of the week as she overtakes the team lead in points and goals. Both Kockenmeister and Fernandes-Brough earned All-Tournament selections for the weekend. 

On the defensive side, Nora Greer and Dahlia Bedward combined for the shutout. Greer made three saves in just over 60-minutes of action. 
 


HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Garnet had chances throughout the opening half, but broke through with the game's first tally in the 43rd minute on a goal from Kockenmeister. Swarthmore outshot Rutgers-Newark 16-3 in the opening stanza. 

- Swarthmore added to its lead with a flurry of goals to open the second half. Fernandes-Brough found the back of the net following an assist from Anwyn Urquhart in the 48th minute. The Garnet maintained pressure as they fired off five more shots before Kockenmeister connected on another goal with an assist from Dani Kaufman-Sedano in the 54th minute. 

- Moments later, Swarthmore added another score in the 57th minute from Fernandes-Brough. The Garnet then added a second score when Franz connected on her first goal of the season. Megan Ruoff was credited for an assist on both scores.
