Women’s Soccer Remains Unbeaten with Victory Over William Paterson

NEWARK, NJ - The Swarthmore College women's soccer team remained unbeaten as they secured its second-straight shutout victory with a 2-0 win versus William Paterson University on Saturday.

The victory featured two first-time goal scorers for the 2022 campaign. Anwyn Urquhart opened the scoring with a goal in the 43rd minute, while Jacinta Fernandes-Brough added an insurance tally in the 48th minute.

Lillian Keller was spectacular in goal as she made her season debut for the Garnet. The senior earned the shutout, while making a season team-best 11 saves. 



HOW IT HAPPENED
- Keller was active early in the game with two saves in the opening 10-minutes of action. William Paterson was on the attack for the start of the opening half, before the Garnet flipped the script and generated their share of scoring chances. Kim Kockenmeister had two attempts at the net late in the half, but had both strikes saved by the goalkeeper.

- The Garnet broke through with a late first half tally in the 43rd minute. Urquhart scored her first goal of the season with a low strike to beat the keeper, 1-0. Keller then made another save before the half to secure Swarthmore's lead at the midway point. 

- Swarthmore padded its lead with a second score early in the second half. Fernandes-Brough joined the scoring with her first goal of the season to put the Garnet ahead by two scores in the 48th minute. 

- The Garnet attack controlled more of the pace in the second half with an 11-6 shots advantage. The team also generated 15 shots on goal, while holding their opponent to 11 attempts.
