Women’s Soccer Takes Season Opener at Arcadia, Chang Tallies Three Points

GLENSIDE, Pa. - The Swarthmore College women's soccer team opened the regular season with a 2-1 road victory at Arcadia University on Thursday afternoon. Abby Chang led the way with three points for the Garnet.

Chang tallied one goal and one assist to set the tone for Swarthmore's offense. The sophomore put the Garnet on the board with a crafty goal in the opening half, while later assisting Amelia Mounts for the game-winning tally. Chang's three point performance marked a career-high for single-game points.

Nora Greer was stellar in goal with five saves while facing 13 shots as she logged all 90 minutes for the Garnet. Swarthmore outshot Arcadia 20-14, while registering 11 shots on goal.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- After a Swarthmore throw-in on the defensive side, the Garnet advanced the ball with precision as Mounts connected with Hope Neale at midfield, who played a perfect lead pass to Chang in the offensive zone. Chang outran a pair of defenders as she dribbled to the right side of the post and beat the Knights' goalkeeper high for the game's first goal in the 18th minute.

- Arcadia connected with an equalizer in the 23rd minute off a penalty kick to tie the game up before the half. Both teams were evenly matched on the stat sheet as each team tallied seven shots in the opening 45-minutes.

- Swarthmore opened the second half with an offensive frenzy as the team outshot Arcadia 6-2 in the opening 10-minutes. The Garnet had two shots blocked and forced the Knights to make three saves. Moments later, Chang came close to her second goal as she hit the post on a shot.

- The Garnet broke through and connected with a go-ahead tally in the 62nd minute. Marea Lee played the ball to Chang, who dribbled to the corner flag and played a perfect centering pass to Mounts. The senior forward then buried a shot into the near post to break the tie, 2-1.
