SWARTHMORE, Pa. - No. 28 Swarthmore College Men's Tennis fought off No. 29 Haverford College Fords in the semifinals of the Centennial Conference Tournament, 5-4, on Saturday afternoon at the Michael Mullan Tennis Center.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Swarthmore took two points in doubles action as the pair of Charley Force and Rushil Patel battled to a win at the number two doubles, while Graham Hadesman and Max Pogorelov earned a hard fought victory at the number three doubles position. Force and Patel, ranked 12th in the ITA Atlantic South Region, fought off a late surge by the Fords for a 8-6 victory. At the number three doubles position, Hadesman and Pogorelov rallied to win a back-and-forth. The duo won the point with a score of 8-7 score, including a 7-4 tiebreaker point.
- At the number one doubles position, Grant Dill and John Nichols-Daly fell to George Jiang and Stefan Johnson, 8-3. The Garnet duo was ranked fourth in the region, while the Fords were ranked 15th.
- Kevin Jiang gave Swarthmore a 3-1 lead with a 6-0, 6-2 win at the number three singles position. The freshman ranks 25th in the ITA Atlantic South region. Force earned the fourth point for the Garnet as he battled to a 7-5, 6-3 victory at the number one singles position. The sophomore, ranked fourth in the region, defeated tenth ranked George Jiang.
-Noah Criss clinched the match for the Garnet with a hard fought three set victory at the number six singles position. The senior dropped the first set, 6-1, but battled back to earn a 6-2 victory in the second set and a 6-1 win in the third set.
