Baseball Splits Twin Bill with Gettysburg

SWARTHMORE, Pa. - Swarthmore College Baseball split a doubleheader with Gettysburg College as the offense took over in game two on Saturday at Clothier Field. 

GETTYSBURG 3, SWARTHMORE 2 
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Nate Jbara got the offense going in the bottom of the second has he scored on a solo home run to left center field. 

- The Bullets plated a pair of runs in the top half of the third inning on an RBI single and a sacrifice fly to center. Paul Cooke knotted the game up at two in the bottom of the sixth as Matthew Silvestre came around to score on the double down the right field line. 

- Edward Berry struck out seven batters in eight innings on the mound for the Garnet. In the top of the first, he sat the Bullets down in order. Berry recorded at least one strike out in each of the first four innings.

HOW IT HAPPENED

- Gettysburg scored first as they plated three in the top half of the third inning. In the bottom half of the inning, Sam Jacobson singled through the left side. The senior catch would come around to score on an RBI single by Max Roffwarg. The Garnet took the lead on a three run home run to the deck in left center field by Austin Burgess. Luke Mutz and Roffwarg came around to score on the homer by Burgess. 

- After the Bullets tied it in the fifth, Michael Sepe gave Swarthmore the lead once again on an RBI double down the right field line. The offense continued as Jbara singled through the left side allowing Sepe to score from second. 

- The Garnet plated four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning as Burgess and Sepe went back to back with hits leaving the park. Burgess' shot left the park over the left field fencing allowing Mutz to score, while Sepe had a solo homer just one pitch later to right field.

- Swarthmore's pitching allowed ten hits as Jeremy Jensen earned the victory on the hill. Alex Rimerman, Joshua Rankey and Matthew Loomis combined to finish the final three innings with four hits and one run allowed, while striking out three.

UP NEXT
The Garnet (11-15, 4-2 CC) return to the field on Tuesday as the travel to take on Haverford College. First pitch for the Centennial Conference game is set for 3:30 p.m.
