Ozawa and Glatz Combine for 17 Shutout Innings in Sweep

CARLISLE, Pa. - The Swarthmore College softball team ended the regular season with two shutouts over Dickinson College on Saturday afternoon. The Garnet won 2-0 in the opener and 3-0 in the 10-inning finale. 

Gwen Glatz and Meg Ozawa combined for 17-shutout innings on the afternoon. Glatz tossed seven shutout innings with four strikeouts in the opener, while Ozawa went the distance with 10 scoreless innings and seven strikeouts.

Olivia McClammy provided the go-ahead run in the opener with a sixth inning RBI triple. In the finale, the Garnet plated the winning run on an error, while Alexandra Simon doubled home two insurance runs.

HOW IT HAPPENED

- Glatz cruised through the opening two innings as the senior retired the first six batters faced. The Devils rallied for three hits in the third, but Glatz escaped the jam without allowing a run.

- The Garnet rallied for two runs in the sixth inning. Laura Hirai opened the frame with a walk and then stole second after the following two batters recorded outs. McClammy then tripled home Hirai with a two-out, go-ahead RBI. Swarthmore added a second run on a Brooke Coneeny single, 2-0.

- Swarthmore escaped a threat in the sixth inning with a 5-3-5 double play to erase a runner in scoring position. Glatz then retired the side in the seventh inning to preserve the shutout victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED

- Ozawa had a perfect game through her first five innings of work. The junior faced the minimum, with six swinging strikeouts in a dominant five innings. Dickinson broke up the perfect game with a lead-off single in the sixth.

- Swarthmore threatened with two runners in scoring position and one out in the eighth, but couldn't score. Ozawa then escaped a one-out threat in the bottom half to preserve the tie.

- The Garnet plated the go-ahead run on a fielding error in the 10th inning. Simon then provided two insurance runs with a double to left-center field, 3-0.
