COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. - The Swarthmore College baseball team captured its third-straight conference sweep with a 12-2 victory over Ursinus College on Friday night.
Austin Burgess expanded his on-base streak to 22 games as he collected two hits and a game-high three RBI.
Luke Mutz also continued to swing a hot bat as he tallied three hits and extended his on-base streak to 18 games.
Paul Cooke and
Sam Jacobson tallied a pair of RBI.Â
On the mound,
Matteo Sollecito set the tone with two shutout innings in a winning effort.
Matthew Loomis and
Liam Alpern also combined for two scoreless with two strikeouts, respectively.Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Jacobson plated the first run with a sacrifice fly in the second inning. Burgess then added another run in the third on a sacrifice fly. Jacobson collected another RBI with a single to left-center field in the fourth, 3-0.Â
- Swarthmore pulled away with four runs in the fifth inning. Cooke doubled in a pair of runs to open the scoring, before
Matthew Silvestre plated Cooke with a single up the middle.
Kirk Terada-Herzer then added another run with a sacrifice fly, 7-0.
- Ursinus got on the board with a run in the fifth inning, but the Garnet would respond two innings later with a five-run seventh inning. Terada-Herzer scored the first run on a wild pitch, while Mutz, Burgess and
Max Roffwarg added runs on RBI hits. The Bears then got a run back in the bottom half, 12-2.Â
