Softball Sweeps Franklin & Marshall to Open Conference Play, Expands Win Streak to 12 Games

LANCASTER, Pa. - The Swarthmore College softball team opened conference play with a road sweep over Franklin & Marshall College on Saturday afternoon. The Garnet won the first contest 4-1, before clinching the sweep with a 10-0 finale victory to capture its 12th-straight victory.

The long ball helped fuel the Garnet offense as the team slugged three home runs on the afternoon. Maya Estrera and Kate Hart added solo shots in game one, while Olivia McClammy blasted a two-out grand slam in game two.

The Garnet also received two strong outings from Gwen Glatz and Meg Ozawa. The duo combined for 12 innings while allowing one run and striking out 14 batters.

HOW IT HAPPENED

- Estrera opened the game with a lead-off home run to center field to give the Garnet an early advantage, 1-0.

- Glatz retired the first nine Diplomats in order, before the Garnet added two insurance runs in the fourth inning. After Glatz opened the inning with a walk, McClammy smacked a double to left field to plate the runner from first base. Hart then plated another run on a ground ball to take a three-run lead, 3-0. 

- The Diplomats got a run back in the sixth inning, but Swarthmore responded with a lead-off home run from Hart to open the seventh inning, 4-1.

HOW IT HAPPENED

- Swarthmore exploded for eight runs in the second inning to jump out to a commanding lead. After the first two batters recorded outs, the next eight batters reached base for the Garnet and eventually came around to score. Brooke Coneeny plated the first run with a double, while Sam Hastings singled in the next runner, 2-0.

- Later in the second inning, Estrera singled up the middle to drive home the third run, before Gwen Glatz followed with a single to add another run. McClammy then came through with the big hit as she cleared the bases with a grandslam, 8-0. 

- Meg Ozawa coasted through the first four innings, while allowing just one hit and striking out five batters. The Garnet provided Ozawa with more run support as they added two more in the fifth inning. Molly O'Sullivan singled to center to plate the first runner, and then Sarah Schab added one more with a knock through the right side, 10-0.
