Men’s Lacrosse Falls Short at Washington College

CHESTERTOWN, MD - The Swarthmore College men's lacrosse team dropped a back-and-forth conference battle versus Washington College, 9-8, on Wednesday night.

 Michael Hardiman and Von Mabbs led the Garnet offense with a hat trick, while Ben Schaeffer added a pair of goals. Quin Seivold also added a team-high three assists. 

Shane Nachshen made 15 saves on the defensive side, while Liam Halstead had a team-best five ground balls and three caused turnovers. 

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Washington opened the scoring with a man-up goal at the 11:13 mark, before Hardiman answered with a score moments later. The Shoremen then put together consecutive scores until Mabbs found the back of the net for the Garnet. Washington then tallied one more score with 0:08 remaining in the opening stanza to take a two-goal advantage, 4-2.

- The Garnet and Shoremen both scored a pair of goals in the second quarter. Schaeffer and Mabbs opened the frame with back-to-back scores to tie the game. However, Washington ended the half with consecutive scores to regain its advantage, 6-4. 

- Swarthmore's defense held strong as they outscored the Shoremen 2-1 in the third quarter. Washington took their largest lead of the contest with a goal to open the second half, but the Garnet answered with scores from Hardiman and Schaeffer to cut its deficit to one goal, 7-6.

- Hardiman tied the game with a goal at the 8:20 mark in the fourth quarter. Washington then countered with a go-ahead score, before Mabbs connected with another goal to tie the game. However, the Shoremen eventually came through with the game-winning tally at the 1:16 mark, 9-8.
