HILTON HEAD, S.C. - Swarthmore College Women's Tennis earned a hard fought 6-3 victory over Berry College (Ga.) on Tuesday at the PTR Spring Fest.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Vikings earned one point, while
Crystal Xu /
Nathalie Williams and the duo of
Daniela Padron-Castillo and
Spencer Watts won a match. The duo earned a hard fought 8-7 victory at the second doubles position.
Sonia Varma and
Erica Stutz fell in the number one position, 8-6, while Padron-Castillo and Watts dropped a hard fought match 8-6 in the third spot.
- Williams, Xu,
Jenny Lewis and
Oviya Kumaran were victorious in singles play. In the number two position, Lewis earned a three set victory with a score of 7-5, 4-6, 12-10. Williams earned a 6-3, 6-3 victory in the number three spot.
- Kumaran added a 6-3, 6-3 victory at the number five spot, while Xu finished with a 6-3, 6-4 win as the Garnet clinched the team victory.
- This was the first time that the two institutions have ever met in women's tennis.
UP NEXT
The Garnet were in the middle of singles play against Sweet Briar, before the match was suspended due to weather. Swarthmore (3-1) returns to the court on March 19th as they host Centre at 12:00 p.m. at the Faulkner Tennis Courts.
