SWARTHMORE, Pa. - Swarthmore College Men's Lacrosse battled hard but fell to nationally-ranked No. 8 Dickinson College in the Centennial Conference opener on Saturday afternoon at Clothier Field. The Garnet dropped the decision with an 11-7 score.
Von Mabbs led Swarthmore with four goals, while
Jackson Brosgol,
Carter Strauch and
Ryan Chambliss each tallied a goal in the conference battle. The Garnet hadn't played a conference game on home turf since April 24th, 2019.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- After earning a man-up opportunity, the Garnet opened the scoring with a little over a minute gone in the first frame as Brosgol netted an unassisted goal. Behind goals from Chambliss and a pair from Mabbs, the Garnet had a 4-2 edge into the first break.
- The Red Devils tied the game at four early in the second quarter, but Mabbs ended the slight run by the visitors. Mabbs goal, assisted by Strauch, gave Swarthmore a one goal lead with 7:52 remaining in the half. The conference foes entered the half-time break knotted up at five.
- Out of the half-time break, Matt Thurston netted two straight goals as Dickinson score four consecutive. Mabbs tallied the last goal of the third quarter with five-plus remaining as the Garnet trailed 9-6. With the help of Mabbs, Strauch tallied the lone goal for the Garnet in the fourth as he made it a three goal deficit for Swarthmore.

Shane Nachshen tallied eight saves on 19 shots on goal.
Will Drake led the way with three caused turnovers, while Brosgol,
Liam Halstead,
Henry Kolyer and
Alex Strauch added a pair of caused turnovers for the Garnet.
