SWARTHMORE, Pa. - The Swarthmore College baseball team earned a doubleheader split against Ramapo College on Saturday afternoon. The Garnet won the opener 8-7, but fell to the Roadrunners in the finale, 8-7.
Matthew Silvestre had a phenomenal day at the plate with four hits and 7 RBI, which included a grand slam in the second game.
Luke Mutz also had a strong offensive showing with four hits and two RBI on the afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Kirk Terada-Herzer singled up the middle to open the first inning, advanced to second on a throwing error and was then bunted over to third base. The runner later came home to score on a Silvestre groundout to plate the game's first run, 1-0.
- Ramapo took the lead with two runs in the second inning. The Garnet then tied the game in the bottom half with a sacrifice fly from
Max Roffwarg after
Nate Jbara opened the frame with a double to left-center field. Swarthmore then regained the lead in the third inning on an RBI single from Jbara, 3-2.
- Swarthmore added three runs in the fourth inning to expand on its lead, 6-2. After consecutive one-out singles from Roffwarg and Terada-Herzer, Mutz plated a run with a single up the middle.
Austin Burgess added on another tally with a single to left field, while Silvestre plated the final run on a groundout to second.
- The Garnet got into trouble in the seventh inning when Ramapo pulled within one run, 6-5.
Casey Jordan entered the game in relief and navigated out of a bases-loaded, no-out jam with three straight strikeouts to end the inning. Jordan struck out all three players swinging as he painted the strike zone with excellent movement on his off-speed pitches.
- Swarthmore added two in the eighth inning on a Roffwarg single and a Mutz sacrifice fly. The Roadrunners threatened with back-to-back homers in the ninth inning, but
Alexander Rimerman silenced the threat with a strikeout to seal the victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Terada-Herzer opened the game with a double off the center field wall before coming around to score on an RBI double from Burgess. The Roadrunners then responded with four runs in the fourth inning to take the lead, 4-1.
- Ramapo added a run in the third and fourth innings to pull ahead by five. The Garnet answered in the fifth inning after singles from Roffwarg and Mutz helped load the bases for Silvestre, who mashed his first career home run over the left field wall for a grand slam, 6-5.
- Silvestre came through with another big hit to tie the game up in the seventh inning. After Burgess worked a two-out walk and stole second base, Silvestre plated the game-tying run with a single up the middle, 6-6.

Jack Bowling was excellent in late-inning relief for the Garnet - tossing three scoreless innings with three strikeouts and one hit. However, the Roadrunners were able to rally for a pair of runs in the ninth inning on two errors from the Garnet. Swarthmore scored a run on an error in the bottom half, but couldn't capitalize with the game-winning run at second base. 8-7.
