McClammy's Walk-Off Leads Softball to Victory

CLERMONT, Fla. - Swarthmore College Softball once again pulled off the walk-off victory as Olivia McClammy played hero in the marathon game against Thomas College (Maine) on Thursday evening. The Garnet defeated the Terrier's, 14-13, in the game that crept into Friday morning.

McClammy, Laura Hirai, Gwen Glatz and Flannery McFadden led the way with three hits each, as eight different members of the Swarthmore lineup notched a hit in the win.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- On the third pitch of the at-bat in top of the seventh inning, McClammy rocketed a home run over the left field fence to give Swarthmore the 14-13 victory.

- Alexandra Simon started the scoring the bottom of the first as the sophomore doubled to left field, allowing Hirai to score from third. The senior stood on third base after she tripled down the left field line.

- Thomas scored five in the top half of the second, but Swarthmore tied it with an RBI single from Glatz to score Cassidy Cheong and McFadden. Glatz came around to score the tying run on sac fly from Simon.

- After trailing 9-7 entering the home half of the sixth, the Garnet put six runs on the board. Emily Bertrand, Glatz, Hirai, and Simon contributed with RBI base knocks for a Swarthmore, 13-9 lead.

- Due to rain in Florida all day, originally scheduled for 5:15 p.m. on Thursday, the game was pushed back to 9:15 p.m. The two teams were ready to battle as they combined for 27 runs and 32 hits in the non-conference battle that lasted over three hours in length. It was the first time that the two programs have ever met in softball.
