SWARTHMORE, Pa. - The Swarthmore College baseball team fell to No. 12 Rowan University, 10-4, at Clothier Field on Tuesday afternoon.
George Briggs paced the offense with two hits, while
Kirk Terada-Herzer,
Luke Mutz,
Matthew Silvestre and
Nate Jbara all drove home a run for the Garnet. The game was ended after eight innings due to darkness.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Garnet surrendered an unearned run in the first inning following two errors. However, Swarthmore answered back quickly with a lead-off homer from Terada-Herzer on the opening pitch. The junior drove the pitch over the left field corner for his first collegiate home run.
- Rowan put up one run in the third inning and three in the fourth to distance themselves from the Garnet with a four-run lead. Swarthmore got one back in the fifth inning after
Paul Cooke worked a walk and then stole second base to advance into scoring position. Cooke came around to score later on an RBI groundout by Mutz, 5-2.
- The Profs added two in the sixth inning, before the Garnet put up another tally in the bottom half.
George Briggs opened the two-out rally with a single down the left-field line.
Josh Bein then worked a walk to prolong the inning, before Silvestre provided the big hit with a pinch-hit, RBI single to left field, 8-3.
- Rowan tallied a couple more runs with a two-run blast in the eighth inning. The Garnet then wrapped up the scoring in the bottom half with an RBI ground ball from Jbara, 10-4. The game was ended after eight innings due to darkness.
