Women’s Basketball Picks Up Pivotal Conference Victory

SWARTHMORE, Pa. - The Swarthmore College women's basketball team led for the entire game as they picked up a crucial conference victory, 59-46, over Washington College on Monday night.

Alyssa Hayashi led all scorers with 21 points, while adding five rebounds and three assists to the stat line. Katelyn Becker also provided valuable minutes as she scored a season-high 10 points on 4-of-7 shooting from the field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Garnet had an exceptional opening quarter as they held their opponent to just one field goal. Swarthmore ended the final six minutes of the quarter on an 11-0 run, while holding the Shorewomen to 1-of-13 from the floor.

- Washington College applied pressure early in the second quarter with eight-unanswered points as they pulled within eight points. The Shorewomen eventually shrunk its deficit to four points with 1:46 remaining in the half. However, the Garnet built back its lead with a Becker bucket and a T Sallie three-pointer at the buzzer, 26-17.

- Early in the third quarter, Sallie built the Garnet lead back to 12 points with his second three-pointer of the game. Both teams played an even stanza as Washington College brought themselves within single digits at the end of the quarter, 39-30.

- Becker opened the fourth quarter with a long ball to set the tone for the Garnet. Following Becker's three, Swarthmore responded with a 7-1 run to take a game-high 18-point lead, 49-31. The Garnet carried a double-digit advantage for the remainder of the game.
