HOBOKEN, NJ - The Swarthmore College baseball team dropped a pair at the Stevens Institute of Technology on Sunday afternoon. The Ducks edged out the Garnet 4-2 in the opener, before taking the finale 9-5.
Michael Sepe went 3-for-3 with an RBI in the opener as he reached base a total of six times on the afternoon.
Kirk Terada-Herzer and
Austin Burgess also put together productive days at the plate with a pair of RBI in the finale.
On the mound,
Alexander Rimerman and
Alex Schoessler tossed key innings for the Garnet as the duo logged a combined nine innings with just one earned run over two games.
STEVENS 4, SWARTHMORE 2
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Stevens built themselves an early cushion with a three-run homer in the first inning. Following the one-out long ball,
Owen Webb entered the inning in relief as he induced a double play to avoid further damage.
- After a one-out single from Sepe,
George Briggs doubled down the left-field line to plate Swarthmore's first run in the fourth inning. However, the Ducks answered with an RBI single in the fifth inning, 4-1.

Emmet Reynolds drew a two-out walk to prolong the eighth inning. Sepe brought home Reynolds in the following at bat with a double to left-center field, 4-2.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- In the first inning, Burgess hit a two-out homer to right-center field to strike first for the Garnet, 1-0.
Jack Fitzgerald then responded with a shutdown bottom of the first inning as he retired the Ducks in order.
- Stevens added on three-unearned runs in the second inning to take the lead. The Garnet then got one back in the third inning on a sacrifice fly from
Austin Burgess, 3-2.
- The Ducks began to pull away with four runs in the bottom of the third, before adding two more in the fifth frame, 9-2.
- Terada-Herzer brought home two runs with a single up the middle in the seventh inning. Briggs plated another run in the eighth inning with a double, 9-5.
