Women's Lacrosse Drops Opener to Widener

SWARTHMORE, Pa. - Swarthmore College Women's Lacrosse fell in the 2022 season opener to Widener University, 12-9, on Saturday afternoon at Clothier Field Stadium. 

Helena Irvine and Sophie Finkelstein led the way for the Garnet as they combined for five goals. In the net, Helen Stafford notched 13 saves for Swarthmore. Today's result snaps a streak of five straight victories for the Garnet.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- After falling behind the Pride, 2-0, Andie Kapiloff tallied the first goal for the Garnet in 2022. Widener answered with two more goals as they took a 4-1 lead into the first break.

- Early in the second quarter, the Swarthmore offense went on a run as they score four straight goals to take a 5-4 advantage. Isabela Bloomquist kicked off the run with her first collegiate goal as Irvine added a pair and  Emma Holub recorded a goal during that stretch. The Garnet went into the half-time break up a goal as Finkelstein notched her first goal. 

- Elizabeth Zack opened the scoring in the third quarter as the attacker collected her first goal of the campaign. Finkelstein gave Swarthmore a lead as she tallied her second of the game with the help of Kyra Hall.

- Widener wasted no time as they scored in the opening 20-second of the fourth quarter to regain the one goal lead. Irvine tied the game at nine with seven minutes to play with a helping hand of Hall.
