BALTIMORE, MD - No. 18 Swarthmore College Men's Basketball fell to No. 13 Johns Hopkins University, 80-66, in the Centennial Conference Championship. The Garnet and Blue Jays have met for the fourth straight time in the conference title match.
Vinny DeAngelo led the Garnet with 20 points, while
George Visconti added 13 points.
Michael Caprise and
Aidan Godfrey led the Garnet on the boards as they each recorded six rebounds.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Swarthmore and Johns Hopkins each missed their opening shots, until
Ryan Ingram hit a bucket in the paint. DeAngelo notched the next three buckets for the Garnet as the top two teams in the Centennial exchange points.
- Visconti hit a jumper in the final five minutes of the opening half to cut the Blue Jays lead to nine. In the first half, Swarthmore shot 43% from the field and 80% from free throw line.
- The Garnet pushed back as they went on a late 9-2 run in the final two minutes of the game, led by three points from Visconti, two from
Matt Mulvey and
George Corzine. On a Conner DeLaney turnover and steal by Godfrey, Mulvey went ended to end to hit a fast break layup.
- Swarthmore notched 14 points off of ten Johns Hopkins turnovers, and the Garnet tallied 19 fast break points.
Conor Harkins was five-of-five from the free throw line, while DeAngelo was five-of-seven from the line.
