No. 24 Men’s Basketball Tops Immaculata in 2022 Finale

SWARTHMORE, Pa. - The No. 24 Swarthmore College men's basketball team bested Immaculata University, 87-57, to close out the calendar year on Friday evening. The team captured its sixth-straight win and haven't suffered a loss since November 16. 

TJ Chapman had a career-best performance with a career-high 14 points, while shooting 4-of-7 from the field in 23 minutes off the bench. George Visconti matched Chapman's game-high with 14 points to go along with six rebounds and three assists. 

The Garnet tallied 11 different scorers in the contest. First-year forward Toby Thornburg excelled off the bench with nine points and a game-high eight rebounds. Matt Ward also dropped a career-high with five points.



HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Garnet opened the game with a 9-0 run. Visconti started the contest with a bucket, while Vinny DeAngelo sank a three ball to end the rally. 

- Swarthmore expanded its lead to 24-9 at the 9:10 mark after holding the Mighty Macs to single-digit points in the opening 10 minutes of play. The Garnet then added to its commanding lead with three-straight triples. Visconti knocked down the first three-pointer, while Chapman connected from deep on back-to-back possessions to take a 37-15 advantage.

- Swarthmore ended the opening half with a 42-22 lead. The Garnet out-rebounded their opponent 27-17 in the half, while adding five blocks in a dominant defensive effort.

- The Garnet continued to run away with the game in the second half. Cal Hanson buried a three-pointer to take a 50-23 lead with 17:33 left. Swarthmore eventually expanded its lead to 30 points with a pair of Colin Shaw free throws at the 13:23 mark.

- Swarthmore led by as many as 37 points after Thornburg connected on a pair of free throws with 9:51 remaining. The Garnet's lead never fell below 28 points the rest of the way as the squad coasted to its sixth-straight win.
