CARLISLE, Pa. - Playing in their fourth conference game of the season, the Swarthmore women's basketball team fell to Dickinson college 59-40 on Saturday, Dec. 3rd.
Senior
Kim Kockenmeister and first year
Anna Hansson lead the way offensively for the Garnet, putting up nine and eight points respectively. Defensively, sophomores
Norah Wingfield and
Alyssa Hayashi showed out for the Garnet, with Wingfield notching three rebounds and three blocks, while Hayashi tallied four steals and two assists.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Garnet fell behind early, trailing the Red Devils 9-1 four minutes into the contest. Swarthmore fought back however, going on a 6-4 run thanks to baskets from Kockenmeister, Wingfield and Hayashi to cut Dickinson's margin to 13-7 at the end of the first quarter.
- Swarthmore would further shrink Dickinson's advantage at the beginning of the second period, trailing by as few as two points at 15-13 with 7:19 to play. Unfortunately, Dickinson's offense would proceed to catch fire, seizing on a 13-3 run to go into the half up 28-16.
- Both squads would kick off the second half trading baskets, with the Garnet seeing points from Hayashi, Hansson, and sophomore
Katelyn Becker. Despite the best efforts of the Swarthmore defense however, the Red Devils would go on an 8-2 run to end the quarter, extending their lead to 49-30.
- While the Garnet did see some offensive success in the fourth, with baskets from Kockenmeister, Hansson and first year
Harrison Anderson allowing Swarthmore to match Dickinson point for point, it was not enough to mount a comeback, as the Garnet fell to the Red Devils 59-40.
- The Garnet are now 4-4, 2-2 in conference play.
