Men’s Basketball Holds off Fords, DeAngelo Drops 20 Points

SWARTHMORE, Pa. - The Swarthmore College men's basketball team strung together their second-straight conference victory with a 63-58 win over Haverford College on Tuesday night.

Vinny DeAngelo had his second-straight 20 point performance as he led the way for the Garnet offense while shooting 4-of-6 from long range. Colin Shaw reached double figures with 11 points, while George Visconti contributed 10 points. Michael Caprise had another solid performance on the glass as he grabbed 10 rebounds to go along with nine points.

Haverford led for the majority of the second half, while keeping the game tight late in regulation. DeAngelo helped put the Garnet over the top with a clutch three-pointer as Swarthmore held off the lingering Fords.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Eddie Paquette helped the Garnet gain separation with a layup in the paint, followed by a DeAngelo three-pointer to put Swarthmore ahead by seven points with 9:58 left. The Garnet eventually expanded its lead to 11 points with a Colin Shaw long ball and a pair of Visconti free throws, 25-16.

- Paquette put the Garnet ahead by a game-high 13 points with a fastbreak layup off a steal from Cal Hanson with 5:18 remaining. The Fords began to chip away the rest of the half as they pieced together a 12-2 run to pull within three points heading into halftime. Haverford capped off its run with a half-court three-pointer to end the opening 20-minutes.

- Early in the second half, Haverford took its first lead with a three-pointer at the 18:11 mark. The Fords led by as many as eight points.

- Swarthmore began to storm back as Shaw captured momentum with a three ball at the 10:59 mark. DeAngelo then cut the squad's deficit to two points with another three-pointer on the team's following possession, 49-47. Later in the half, Paquette connected from long range to pull within a pair of points. Caprise then tied the game with a couple free throws to knot the game at 52 with 7:28 left.

- DeAngelo tied the game late in the half with a pair of free throws. The sharpshooter then fought through contact to sink a three-pointer from the top of the arc to put the Garnet ahead by three points with 1:13 remaining. The Fords were able to cut their deficit to two points, but Caprise quickly responded with a layup at the other end.
