Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Women’s Basketball Dominates Ursinus For Second Straight Win

SWARTHMORE, Pa. - Kicking off conference play with a bang, the Swarthmore women's basketball team shut out Ursinus College 52-39 on Saturday, Nov. 19th.

Sophomore Norah Wingfield led the way offensively for the Garnet, knocking down a team leading 14 points and adding an assist. On the defensive end, sophomore T Sallie came up clutch for Swarthmore, notching team leading marks of 10 rebounds and six steals.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Despite falling behind 2-0 in the opening seconds, a three-pointer from Sallie gave the Garnet the lead, one which they never surrendered.

- The Garnet jumped out to a dominant early lead, with the scoreboard reading 17-4 with 3:41 left to play in the first quarter. While some Ursinus offensive success would shrink the deficit, Swarthmore went into the break with a comfortable 17-11 advantage.

- Starting off the second quarter much like the first, the Garnet would extend their advantage, scoring seven points to go up 24-11 before Ursinus could respond. While a layup from Ursinus would shrink the Garnet's lead back down to single digits with 1:30 left in the period, a jumper from first-year Raven Richardson would extend Swarthmore's margin back to 11 as the Garnet went into the half up 29-18.

- While the Bears were able to keep pace with the Garnet through the four minutes of the third quarter, after the halfway point Swarthmore would prove unstoppable. Layups from first year Anna Hansson, senior Kim Kockenmeister and sophomore Carolina Lopez further cemented the Garnet's choke hold on the game, as Swarthmore went into the fourth sporting their largest lead so far at 41-24.

- Looking to ice a game already firmly in hand, a jumper from Wingfield to kick off the fourth grew the Garnet's advantage to 43-24. While Ursinus attempted to mount a late comeback, Swarthmore's lead proved insurmountable as the Garnet took home the 52-39 win.

- The Garnet are now 2-2, 1-0 in conference play.
