Men’s Basketball Dominates Bowdoin College In Home Opener

SWARTHMORE, Pa. - Playing in Tarble Pavillion for the first time this season, the Swarthmore men's basketball team decisively took down Bowdoin College by a score of 90-68 on Saturday, Nov. 12th.

Dominating on both sides of the ball, the Garnet saw multiple players put up impressive stat lines. Offensively, Swarthmore had four players put up double digit points, with junior Vinny DeAngelo notching 20, first year Eddie Paquette tallying 12, senior Colin Shaw posting 11 and sophomore Matt Mulvey putting up 10. On the defensive end, senior George Corzine held down the fort for the Garnet, notching twelve rebounds and a block.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Garnet struck first just 50 seconds into the contest, with DeAngelo easing in a layup to give Swarthmore its first lead of the game. While Bowdoin would respond with a jumper to tie the game at two, a DeAngelo free throw would swing the advantage back the way of the Garnet.
- Neither team would manage to pull away over the following minutes, with both squads trading baskets back and forth. While Swarthmore was able to take a 19-14 lead off of two Corzine baskets, the Polar Bears found offensive success of their own, shrinking the Swarthmore advantage back down to 19-17 with ten minutes left in the half. This back and forth trend would continue throughout the period, with the Garnet ultimately able to find a bit of daylight in the closing seconds and go into the break up 40-35.
- Swarthmore exploded out of the gate in the second half, scoring the first 11 points to go up 49-35 before the Polar Bears had even a chance to respond. The Garnet's offense continued to dominate throughout the period, with DeAngelo alone knocking down eight baskets. While Bowdoin attempted to mount a comeback, the Garnet defense proved stout, holding the Polar Bears to just 32 points on the half. Swarthmore would pull away with the game, ultimately taking down Bowdoin 90-68.
- The Garnet remain undefeated, sporting a 2-0 record on the season.
