Women’s Soccer Advances to Centennial Semifinals, Kockenmeister Scores Twice

SWARTHMORE, Pa. - The Swarthmore College women's soccer team knocked off sixth-seeded Gettysburg College, 4-0, in the opening round of the Centennial Tournament on Tuesday night.

Kim Kockenmeister led the way with a pair of first half goals as the Garnet coasted to its first Centennial Tournament victory since 2018. The team's leading goal scorer notched her ninth and tenth goals of the season with both tallies coming three minutes apart. She became the team's first double-digit goal scorer since 2018 and only the fifth player to accomplish the feat in the past decade.

Nicte Machado-Aco came through with some postseason magic after earning her second start of the season for the Garnet. Machado-Aco set the tone with the team's first goal in the 24th minute. Amelia Mounts also added a goal for the Garnet with her seventh of the season in the second half.

Lillian Keller was excellent in net with six saves as she earned her second shutout of the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Garnet threatened early off a free kick from the left side. Keren Maze played a ball inside the box, which found the head of Alice Onyango-Opiyo. The senior connected on the pass, but directed the ball just wide of the post. Swarthmore created more pressure in the 14th minute when an Abby Chang cross deflected off the foot of a defender, which forced the Gettysburg keeper to make a save.

- The Garnet tallied the game's first score in the 24th minute on a header from Machado-Aco. Dani Kaufman-Sedano played a cross from the left endline to Machado-Aco, who buried the ball into the opposite corner of the net. Mounts nearly added to the advantage, but missed wide on a bullet from just outside the box.

- Kockenmeister added an insurance goal in the 40th minute. Maze played a corner attempt to the far side post to connect with the head of Kockenmeister for the game's second goal. The senior then found the back of the net once more in the 42nd minute when Jacinta Fernandes-Brough led her to the center of the box with a perfectly-placed pass. Kockenmeister beat her defender and finished at the net for her second tally in three minutes.

- Mounts capitalized off a throw-in in the 55th minute. The senior controlled the throw with her chest, settled the ball, beat her defender and then finished with a strike over Gettysburg's goalkeeper. Lillian Keller then responded with a pair of diving saves at the other end to preserve the team's shutout.
