Women’s Soccer Outlasts Shorewomen in Conference Victory, 2-1

SWARTHMORE, Pa. - The Swarthmore College women's soccer team picked up its second conference victory with a 2-1 victory over Washington College on Wednesday night.

Kim Kockenmeister opened the scoring in the 23rd minute with her team-leading sixth goal of the season. Allie Zitelli also added an opening half score with a powerful strike from just outside the box in the 43rd minute.

Lillian Keller shutout the Shorewomen in 45-minutes of action with three saves. Dahlia Bedward allowed just one goal in the second half as she made several crucial stops in a four-save effort.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Kockenmeister put the Garnet on the board first in the 23rd minute. Rebecca Putnam came away with a steal at midfield and then fed the ball to Kockenmeister on the counter attack. The senior received the pass cleanly and buried a goal into the empty net. Moments later, Kaufman-Sedano nearly added another tally after the shot attempt deflected off the keeper and hit the post.

- Zitelli added another score in the 43rd minute. The sophomore carried the ball from center and fired a strike from just outside the box to beat the Shorewoman's keeper in the top-left corner.

- Bedward entered the game in the second half and immediately made a fantastic leaping save. The first-year keeper was then forced to make another save as she turned away the Shorewomen.

- Amelia Mounts hit the crossbar on a free kick from 30-yards out as she nearly added to the Garnet lead. The Shorewomen then answered with a counter attack as they cut the Garnet lead in half with a tally in the 51st minute.

- Emme Hansard denied the Shorewomen of a potential scoring opportunity when she wrestled the ball away from an attacker in the 80th minute. The attacker had an open run at the net before Hansard cleanly stripped the ball and cleared it to the corner. On the attack, Nicte Machado-Aco nearly took advantage of a free kick in the final moments of the game, but missed just high.
