Field Hockey Loses Regionally-Ranked Showdown to Bryn Mawr

SWARTHMORE, Pa. - The Swarthmore College field hockey team fell to Bryn Mawr College, 3-0, in a battle between two regionally-ranked conference foes on Wednesday night.

Grace Twitchell led the offense with a team-high four shots, while Martina Kampel, Deborah Kim and Brooke Findlay each registered a shot on goal.

Cassandra Conklin played a full 60-minutes in the cage with three saves as she faced 14 total shot attempts. The Owls narrowly outshot the Garnet 14-13 with a 6-3 shots on goal advantage.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Owls controlled play in the opening quarter as they outshot the Garnet 7-0 in the stanza. Bryn Mawr opened the scoring in the 11th minute after the Garnet fought off several scoring threats. Conklin made two saves in the quarter as Swarthmore's backline fought to limit the damage.

- Bryn Mawr struck again early in the second quarter to take a 2-0 lead. However, the Garnet fared much better in the second quarter as they outshot their opponent 5-2, while holding a 4-1 corners advantage. Swarthmore threatened at the end of the second quarter as they generated a pair of shots from Jackie Crowley and Grace Twitchell following a corner attempt.

- Swarthmore dominated time of possession with a 6-0 shot advantage in the third quarter. The Garnet created a scoring chance in the 39th minute off a corner attempt. Quinn Basewitz played a strike to Anna Stancofski on the left side of the cage, but had the shot deflect just wide off her stick. Twitchell also had a pair of scoring chances towards the end of the quarter, but had both shots blocked by the Bryn Mawr defense.

- Conklin made an excellent diving save early in the fourth quarter on an Owls breakaway. However, Bryn Mawr added another goal off a corner attempt in the 51st minute.
