CARLISLE, Pa. - Falling for the first time since September, the Swarthmore women's soccer team lost to Dickinson 2-1 on Saturday, Sept. 22nd.
The Garnet saw their goal come off the foot of senior Kim Kockenmesiter in the 49th minute. Kockenmeister helmed the Garnet's offensive attack, tallying a team-leading two shots on the day.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Dickinson found the goal twice in the first half, scoring in both the 15th and 22nd minutes to take a 2-0 lead. While the Garnet had their chances, tallying three shots and drawing two corners through the first 45 minutes, Swarthmore could not find paydirt, going into the half trailing the Red Devils.
- Kockenmeister finally connected for the Garnet just three minutes into the second half. The Connecticut native took full advantage of a long pass into the box, shaking off her defender and sneaking the ball past the keeper into the lower left-hand corner to finally put Swarthmore on the board at 2-1.
- The Swarthmore defense locked down Dickinson in the second half, holding them to just four shots and one earned corner, preventing the Red Devils from adding to their point total.
- Despite putting up four shots of their own, the Garnet were unable to equalize. Swarthmore had a last chance in the 89th minute when they drew a penalty kick just outside the box, but Dickinson cleared the ball and ran out the clock to secure the 2-1 win.
- The Garnet are now 11-3-1, 5-2-1 in conference play.
