CARLISLE, Pa. - Playing in their last road game of the season, the Swarthmore field hockey team lost to Dickinson College by a score of 3-2 on Saturday, Oct. 22nd.
Â
The Garnet saw both of their goals come off the stick of senior
Martina Kampel. Kampel helmed the offense, notching a team leading three shots on goal.
Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
-Â Â Â Â Swarthmore struck first, finding the back of the cage just three minutes into the contest. Kampel took full advantage of a pass into the circle from senior
Quinn Basewitz, losing her defender with some nice stick work before sending a reverse shot into the top corner to put the Garnet up 1-0.
-Â Â Â Â Dickinson would respond just over three minutes later, evening the score at 1-all.
-Â Â Â Â Kampel recaptured the lead for Swarthmore in the 13th minute, slamming a penalty shot past the keeper and into the bottom left-hand corner for the Garnet's second goal of the day.
-Â Â Â Â Dickinson would even the score three minutes into the second quarter, sending the match into the half tied 2-2.
-Â Â Â Â Despite the Garnet putting up seven shots in the final two quarters, they could not find paydirt. Dickinson would seize upon the opportunity, securing their third and final goal in the 53rd minute, slipping a penalty shot past first year keeper
Cassandra Conklin for a 3-2 win.
-Â Â Â Â Despite falling to the Red Devils, the Garnet dominated the game on both sides of the ball. Swarthmore outshot Dickinson by a wide margin, putting up 16 shots to Dickinson's three, while also drawing four penalty corners to Dickinson's one.Â
-Â Â The Garnet are now 9-6, 4-4 in conference play.Â
