Volleyball Hands F&M First Conference Loss in Senior Day Sweep

SWARTHMORE, Pa. - The Swarthmore College volleyball team picked up a pivotal conference victory as they handed Franklin & Marshall its first Centennial loss of the season, 3-0, on Saturday afternoon.

Trisha Razdan paced the Garnet with 10 kills, while Kaylee Zhang and Alexa Bartlett each tallied nine kills. Zhang also had five aces and 11 digs to cap off a successful afternoon. Dani Pena set the tone for the offense with 32 assists as the team's leading setter. 

Zindzhi Montgomery had another solid defensive performance with a team-high three blocks, while Ellie Streeper had 18 digs to lead the Garnet.



HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Garnet jumped out to an early 6-2 advantage to set the tone early in the match. Swarthmore then expanded on its lead with an 8-3 rally to gain further separation from the Diplomats, 15-9. Later in the set, Zhang and Razdan had a pair of pivotal kills to stop a Franklin & Marshall run. The Diplomats pulled within two points, but the Garnet clinched the set on a Razdan kill, 25-22. 

- The Diplomats responded in the second set with a fast start as they jumped out to a 11-6 advantage. Bartlett helped quiet the Diplomats' run with a key kill, which was followed by a Chloe Mayhue ace and Pena kill. Franklin & Marshall then countered with five-straight points to pull ahead 17-11. However, the Garnet punched back with an 8-1 run to regain the lead over the Diplomats, 19-18. After surrendering the lead, the Garnet tied the set on a Bartlett kill, before taking the set with a pair of kills from Zhang and a clinching kill from Angelina Heminway, 25-23. 

- Swarthmore used five-unanswered points to gain early separation over the Diplomats, 11-7. The Garnet then put together an 11-3 run to help put away the Diplomats. The Garnet clinched the set on an attack error to claim the match, 25-16.
