Women’s Soccer Outlasts #24 Franklin & Marshall in Thrilling Comeback

SWARTHMORE, Pa. - The Swarthmore College women's soccer team overcame an early one goal deficit to defeat #24 Franklin & Marshall, 2-0, on Saturday night.

Nicte Machado-Aco scored her first goal of the season to win the game for the Garnet in the 43rd minute. Swarthmore also added another tally on an own goal moments before Machado-Aco's score.

Nora Greer was excellent in net as she made nine saves and allowed just one goal in 90 minutes of action. The defense faced a busy day in front of the net as the Diplomats outshot the Garnet 29-3.

Emme Hansard had an exceptional day as she led the Garnet back line. Hansard preserved the Garnet lead late in the game by clearing a shot on goal before it crossed the back line.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Diplomats struck immediately with the opening tally in the second minute. Abby Chang nearly responded in the 12th minute after Eloise Franz played a ball into the box off a free kick from 35-yards out. Chang controlled the pass and chipped a shot over the goalkeeper, but had it bounce off the crossbar.

- Greer had to make a critical save in the 25th minute. The Diplomats attacker collected a loose ball inside the box and quickly fired a strike from five-yards out. However, Greer stood strong in net and caught the shot attempt. The junior keeper then made another tough save in the 35th minute off a header.

- Swarthmore tied the game with an own goal in the 42nd minute. Amelia Mounts played the ball into the box and off the head of a Diplomat defender for the team's first goal. The Garnet then added another tally moments later off the foot of Machado-Aco in the 43rd minute. Keren Maze took a corner kick from midfield and found Machado-Aco free inside the box.

- Hansard robbed the Diplomats of a goal in the 75th minute. The attacker beat Greer with a low strike, but had the shot denied by the foot of Hansard before the ball crossed the line.
