Field Hockey Drops Conference Battle versus Franklin & Marshall

SWARTHMORE, Pa. - The Swarthmore College field hockey team fell to Franklin & Marshall College, 3-1, on Saturday afternoon.

Elizabeth Zack scored her first goal of the season to collect the team's lone tally of the afternoon, while Grace Twitchell picked up the assist. Martina Kampel and Quinn Basewitz both paced the team with three shots.

Cassandra Conklin had a busy afternoon in the cage with nine saves in 90-minutes of action. The first-year made several challenging stops to keep the Garnet close.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Franklin & Marshall opened the scoring in the fifth minute, before adding another tally in the 13th minute. The Diplomats controlled the opening stanza as they held the Garnet without a shot.

- The Garnet cut its deficit in half with a goal from Zack in the 24th minute. Callie Cho played a corner attempt to Basewitz, who fed the ball to Twitchell at the top of the box. Twitchell then fired a shot towards the goal from center, which was deflected by the stick of Zack for her first goal of the season. Swarthmore responded with a strong second quarter as they outshot their opponent 3-2 for the stanza.

- Amanda Roessler denied the Diplomats with a defensive save in the 39th minute. They created a quality scoring chance off a corner attempt, but had their rip from center blocked by the stick of Roessler. Franklin & Marshall would respond on the ensuing rebound with their third goal of the contest, 3-1.

- Later in the third quarter, the Garnet threatened following another corner attempt. Kampel played a shot high towards the goal, which found the stick of Brooke Findlay, but deflected just wide of the cage. The Diplomats controlled possession for the majority of the quarter as the Garnet were forced to make six saves.

- Basewitz fired a shot on goal in the 51st minute, but had the attempt was kicked wide by the Diplomats goalie.
