Women’s Soccer Draws McDaniel 1-1

WESTMINSTER, Md. - Playing in their third conference match of the season, the Swarthmore women's soccer team drew McDaniel College 1-1 on Saturday, Oct. 1st.

The Garnet saw their offensive success come off the foot of senior Anwyn Urquhart, who found the back of the net in the 35th minute. On defense, junior Nora Greer was a rock in goal, tallying seven saves and withstanding a storm of 17 shots from McDaniel strikers.

This is the first time that Swarthmore played McDaniel since falling to the Green Terror 3-0 in the 2021 Centennial Conference Tournament.

HOW IT HAPPENED
-    Looking to put themselves ahead early, the Garnet found paydirt in the 35th minute, with Urquhart slamming the ball into the back of the net for their first goal of the season. While Urquhart's goal would be Swarthmore's only of the match, the Garnet kept up the offensive attack throughout the match, notching seven more shots on the day.
-    The Garnet defense kept McDaniel in check, a squad that was unbeaten at home and had received top 25 votes in the most recent national rankings poll. Greer was a force as keeper, allowing only one ball to sneak by her in the 38th minute while turning away seven other shots on goal. The McDaniel attack got particularly intense in the second half, with the Green Terror launching another eleven shots, all of which Greer did not let past her.
-    The two goals in the first half would prove the only scoring on the day from either squad, with the final horn sounding with the score tied at 1-all. This is the Garnet's first tie of the season, with Swarthmore now sporting a 7-2-1 record overall, 1-1-1 in conference play.
