WASHINGTON, D.C. - No. 25 Swarthmore College Women's Soccer opened the season with a victory over Maryville College (Tn.) 3-0 in a match played on a neutral site at St. Alban's School in the nations capital.
The Garnet improve to 1-0 on the season, while the Scots fall to 0-2.
Charlotte Pohl opened the scoring in the 13th minute off of a free kick. Towards the end of the half,
Abby Chang added an insurance goal fo the Garnet as the first-year midfielder put home a through ball from
Lulu Wilson.
The second half saw the same successes for the Garnet as
Alice Onyango-Opiyo headed a corner kick from
Ally Scheve into the back of the net.
Chantal Reyes and
Lillian Keller combined for the shutout. Swarthmore tallied 16 shots on the Scots goaltender, Sophie Turner.
Swarthmore returns to action on Friday as they travel to take on New York University. First kick is slated for 7:00 p.m. at Gaelic Park.
