RIVERDALE, N.Y.- No. 25 Swarthmore College Women's Soccer fell on the road New York University, 2-1, at Gaelic Park on Friday night.
Swarthmore falls to 1-1, while NYU improves to 1-1.
About 34 minutes into the game, NYU opened the scoring off the foot of Sam March. Shortly after the break,
Kim Kockenmeister notched a goal from 20 feet out past a diving keeper to tie the game at one.
Samantha Barnes had a change three minutes later, but hit the post to keep the score tied.
Spritle Hirano scored the game-winner for NYU just ten minutes into the second half.
Swarthmore was held to 12 shots and only six corner kicks.
Chantal Reyes collected six saves in 45 minutes of action. Kockenmeister and
Alice Onyango-Opiyo led the Garnet with two shots on goal each. Barnes,
Veronica Gibbons,
Amelia Mounts,
Megan Ruoff,
Amy Harris and
Allie Zitelli each added a shot for Swarthmore.
The Garnet return to action on Sunday as they travel to take on Stevens at 12pm.
