Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Kockenmeister's OT Goal Wins it for Women's Soccer

SWARTHMORE, Pa. - Kim Kockenmeister's goal in the first overtime earned Swarthmore College Women's Soccer a 1-0 victory over Arcadia University on Thursday night at Clothier Field Stadium.

Alice Onyango-Opiyo sent a long ball from midfield to a running Kockenmeister at the top of the box. Kockenmeister collected the ball, took one touch and put it by a diving Julia Mendez.

Early in the first half, the Garnet had several opportunities to open the scoring as they had four consecutive corners. Amelia Mounts provided a short corner to Amy Harris, who would try to create a scoring chance. The first corner saw Harris touch the ball back to Mounts for a shot, but it was blocked by a Knights defender.

In the first ten minutes of the second half, Swarthmore tallied three shots. Harris recorded a shot wide, while Veronica Gibbons headed the ball wide on the next chance. Anwyn Urquhart rocketed a shot high over the net in the 66th minute. In the 72nd minute on an Ally Scheve corner, the Garnet looked to put one in the net, but Urquhart's header hit the crossbar.

Swarthmore tallied 18 shots and nine corners compared to five shots and two corners for Arcadia. Chantal Reyes earned the win in net as the senior recorded four saves.

The Garnet move to 2-2-2 on the season, while the Knights drop to 3-7. Swarthmore and Arcadia last met on November 16th, 2019 in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament, but the result was the same as the Garnet won 1-0 in overtime. Swarthmore returns to the pitch on Saturday as they host #10 McDaniel College in Centennial Conference play. Kickoff is set to start at 11:00 am.
