ALLENTOWN, Pa. - Harleigh Chwastyk earned her 300th career victory as Swarthmore College Volleyball swept Muhlenberg College on Tuesday night.
The Garnet improve to 5-5, and 1-1 in Centennial Conference play, while the Mules drop to 6-6 and 0-2 in league action. Swarthmore defeated Muhlenberg in straight sets, 25-17, 25-17 and 25-17.
Chwastyk, the first full-time coach in program history, has led the Garnet to 11 Centennial Conference Tournaments, and an NCAA Elite Eight appearance. She earned her first victory on September 4th, 2002 with a three set victory over Rosemont. Chwastyk has 101 Centennial Conference match victories, which ranks her third all-time in conference history.
In the first set, Chloe Mayhue got Swarthmore on the board first with a kill from Dani Pena. The Mules went on to score three unanswered points before Pena tallied a kill from Sierra Tyson. The Garnet collected five straight points for an 8-5 lead. Mayhue and Grace Hegland tallied a kill each, while Trisha Razdan added a service ace during this run. Razdan added another ace, while Erin Kaye tallied a kill to win the set.
The second set saw the Garnet tally three of the first four points. A kill by Kaye and Lucy Fetterman accounted for two of those points while Tyson added another service ace for the Garnet. Swarthmore finished the second on a 9-1 run with Kaylee Zhang tallying two kills during that run.
For the third straight set, the Garnet finished off the Mules with a 5-0 run with the help of two kills by Zhang and a service ace by Pena. Zhang led the Garnet with 13 kills and 13 digs, while Razdan and Hegland combined for 16 kills. Tyson added ten digs and four assists, while Pena added three digs and led the Garnet with 36 assists.
Swarthmore will return to the court on Saturday as they host Gettysburg College at 1:00 p.m. in Centennial Conference action.
