SWARTHMORE, Pa. -
Joe Barile scored a pair of goals as Swarthmore College Men's Soccer defeated Gettysburg College, 2-1, in Centennial Conference action on Saturday night at Clothier Field Stadium.
The Garnet improve to 5-2-0 and 1-1-0 in conference play, while the Bullets fall to 4-2-1 and 1-2-0 in league action.
An early goal by Connor Fife gave the Bullets a 1-0 lead in the 8th minute. A little over four minutes later,
Woojin Shin passed a deep ball to running Barile. The senior took the pass and put the ball in upper right corner to tie the game.
In the 86th minute, Barile rocketed a shot over a leaping Kevin Muhic for the eventual game winning goal.
Max Kral collected three saves on six shots by Gettysburg. Swarthmore tallied 18 shots and three corner kicks in the game.
Prior to the game, the Swarthmore Men's Soccer program honored the memory of Ken Andres '75, who passed away this past summer. Andres was an important part of the 1974 men's soccer team that finished as runner-ups in the NCAA Touranment. That team, which was inducted into the Swarthmore Hall of Fame in 2019, made an unprecedented run to the finals.
The Garnet return to action on Wednesday as they travel to take on Ursinus at 7:30 pm.
