SWARTHMORE, Pa. - Swarthmore College Field Hockey battled No. 2 Johns Hopkins University in the opening game of Centennial Conference play, but fell 2-0 on Saturday afternoon at Clothier Field Stadium. The Garnet fall to 5-2 and 0-1 in CC action, while the Blue Jays improve to 8-0 and 1-0 in Centennial play. 

The Garnet defensive held the nationally ranked Blue Jays to only one shot in the first frame and 11 total in the game. Hopkins' lone shot in the opening frame came early on as Sadie Abboud forced Victoria Kimmel to make a tough save. Mid-way through the first quarter, Swarthmore would have an opportunity as Chelsea Semper lined up to take a penalty corner. 

Olivia Fox scored the only goal in the first half in the 21st minute of play. Kimmel came up big with another save in the 25th minute as the freshman stopped Grace Nockolds. 

The Garnet added pressure in the third quarter as earned a penalty corner in the 33rd minute. In the 42nd minute, Samantha Meacock was fouled inside the circle forcing the officials to issue a penalty stroke. Meacock's equalizer attempt went just wide right of the cage. In the 56th minute, Izzy Thompson added an insurance goal for the Blue Jays. 

Kimmel collected six saves in the cage for the Garnet. Swarthmore returns to action on Wednesday as they travel to take on Muhlenberg at 7:30 pm in Centennial play.
