BALTIMORE, Md. - Swarthmore College Women's Soccer opened Centennial Conference play with a 3-0 loss to No. 2 Johns Hopkins University on Wednesday evening at Homewood Field.
Early in the first half,
Samantha Barnes had the Garnet's first opportunity but put the shot wide. Moments later,
Veronica Gibbons forced Caitlin Hendricks to make a save on the left side of the net. In the 14th minute, Katie Sullivan opened the scoring as the forward put her third goal of the season.
Johns Hopkins added a goal from Callie Jones in the 40th minute for a 2-0 half-time lead.
Swarthmore came out firing in the second half as
Hope Neale rocketed a shot just over the net.
Allie Zitelli added another shot for the Garnet as the midfielder forced another tough save for Hendericks. Gibbons finished the game with two shots, as
Jacinta Fernandes-Brough added a shot on goal for the Garnet.
Abby Chang led the Garnet with three shots with two of them on target.
The Garnet fall to 1-2-1 and 0-1-0 in conference action, while the Blue Jays improve to 5-0-1 and 2-0-0 in league play. Swarthmore plays its first game on home turf in almost two years as the Garnet host on Gettysburg College on Saturday. Kickoff is set for 4:00 pm
