Men's Soccer Knocks Off Unbeaten Eastern

SWARTHMORE, Pa. - Swarthmore College Men's Soccer knocked off unbeaten Eastern University, 3-1, at Clothier Field Stadium on Tuesday evening.

In the 40th minute, Harry Nevins headed home a corner kick from Ayo George to open the scoring. With less than a minute remaining in the first half, Evan Cope put the ball in the back of the net  for the equalizer after stealing a soft pass to Christian Bignotti

Just seconds into the second half, Charley Ward connected on a quick touch with Joe Barile to give Swarthmore a 2-1 advantage. Ward received the initial pass from Barile just outside the box as the ball was reuturned to Barile for the goal. Barile found the upper right ninety for his second of the season. In the 78th minute, the Garnet looked to extend its lead with a penalty kick. Bless Tumushabe lined up for the PK but couldn't connect as the junior found the right post.

As time began to wind down in the game, Conor Gill was taken down inside the box allowing for a penalty kick for the Garnet. Nevins lined up for Swarthmore's second PK of the game and scored his second of the game. Max Kral earned the win in the net as he recorded a save.

The Garnet improve to 4-2, while Eastern drops to 6-1. With the victory tonight, men's soccer coach Eric Wagner surpassed 200-wins at Swarthmore College. The Garnet return to the field on Saturday as they host Gettysburg College in Centennial Conference action. Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m. The Swarthmore Men's Soccer program will honor Ken Andres '75 on Saturday prior to the match.  Andres, the heartbeat of the 1974 national runners-up at Swarthmore, passed away earlier this summer.  Join us at 6:40 pm for a brief ceremony recognizing Andres' family and legacy.
