SWARTHMORE, Pa. - Swarthmore College Field Hockey earned its second straight shutout with a 7-0 victory over Delaware Valley University on Saturday afternoon at Clothier Field.
The Garnet, who shutout Eastern 5-0 in their last contest, opened the scoring eight minutes into the contest with a goal from
Brooke Findlay. The sophomore put home a pass from classmate
Jackie Crowley to give Findlay a collegiate first goal.
Exactly three minutes after the opening goal from Findlay,
Samantha Meacock added a goal for Swarthmore. Meacock collected a pass from a
Chelsea Semper corner and put it past the Aggies goaltender, Alyssa Rudd. With time winding down in the first frame,
Katherine Kohn tallied her first goal of her career to give Swarthmore a 3-0 advantage.
In the first quarter, the Garnet tallied nine shots, while the Aggies were held to zero shots.
Swarthmore added a goal from Semper in the second quarter. The senior found the ball loose in the circle after a Meacock shot attempt, and put it into the back of the cage for a four goal lead. Crowley put home a loose ball to give Swarthmore a 5-0 advantage into the half time break.
Martina Kampel added her fourth goal of the season as the junior created her own play off of a corner set up by Semper.
Anna Stancofski added an insurance goal in the 57th minute. The sophomore collected another loose ball in the circle to earn her first collegiate goal
Victoria Kimmel and
Aron Lankford shared the shutout in net for the Garnet. Swarthmore out shot Delaware Valley 30-3, as Kimmel saved all three attempts the second quarter.
The Garnet improve to 4-1 on the season as the Aggies fall to 0-6. Swarthmore takes to the field on Wednesday as they host Cabrini University at 7:00 p.m. at Clothier Field.
