SWARTHMORE, Pa. - Swarthmore College Field Hockey shut out Eastern University, 5-0, in a non-conference game on Wednesday afternoon at Clothier Field Stadium.
The Garnet improve to 3-1 on the season, while the Eagles drop to 1-4. Swarthmore opened the scoring in the third minute of play as
Martina Kampel knocked home her third goal of the season. The junior collected her own rebound after Abby Agapito stopped the first attempt.
Just a little over six minutes later,
Quinn Basewitz found the back of the net for her first goal of the 2021 campaign. As time began to wind down in the first half, Swarthmore looked to
Chelsea Semper to spark the offense with a corner opportunity. Off the corner, sophomore
Jackie Crowley connected to give the Garnet a 3-0 lead at half time. The goal was Crowley's first of the season.
Swarthmore kept the offense going in the second half with a
Samantha Meacock goal late in the third frame. Meacock collected the corner from Semper and had her initial shot blocked, but gathered the ball to give Swarthmore a 4-0 lead. Mid-way though the fourth frame,
Alexandra Kelleher added an insurance goal for the Garnet as they took a 5-0 lead.
Later in the fourth frame,
Aron Lankford came up huge with a penalty stroke save on Jenna Lapp. The Garnet tallied 21 shots and 14 corners, while the Eagles were held to five shots and four corners.
Swarthmore hosts Delaware Valley on Saturday at Clothier Field Stadium with a start time set for 1pm.
