IMMACULATA, Pa. - Swarthmore College Women's Basketball battled back to knock off Immaculata University, 51-47, in a non-conference game on Monday.
The Garnet improve to 3-1, while the Mighty Macs drop to 2-1. Swarthmore trailed going into the final frame, 33-30, but battled back with an offensive show in the fourth quarter. The Garnet opened up the final frame on a 11-3 run, led by five points from
Kim Kockenmeister and baskets from
Katelyn Becker.
Dana Bandurick and
Alyssa Hayashi. Swarthmore shot 77.8% from the field in the final frame, but held Immaculata to 42.9%.
With a little over seven minutes remaining in the game, Kockenmeister was fouled on a three-pointer attempt. The junior guard made all three free throw attempts to give Swarthmore a 39-36 advantage. On the ensuing possession, the Garnet defense stifled the Mighty Macs by forcing two missed layups. After a defensive rebound of Bandurick, the Garnet marched down the court as Kockenmeister found Hayashi for an easy layup to give the visitors a five point lead.
Kockenmeister and Bandurick knocked down crucial free-throws as time was beginning to wind down in the final frame.
Bandurick finished the game with a double-double of 16 points and ten rebounds. The junior forward added three blocks for the Garnet. Kockenmeister added 13 points, while Hayashi finished with nine points.
T Sallie tallied three steals and six points, while Becker added a pair of steals and four points.
Swarthmore returns to the court after a short break on November 30th as they travel to Haverford. Tip-off for the Centennial Conference contest is set for 6:00 p.m.
