SWARTHMORE, Pa. - Swarthmore College Men's Soccer dropped the Centennial Conference First Round match to Gettysburg College in overtime, 2-1, on Tuesday evening.
After a scoreless first half,
Bless Tumushabe put the Garnet on the board with his second goal of the year. In the 74th minute,
Leo Hecht created an opportunity down the near sideline and lifted the ball to Tumushabe, who put it in the lower right corner of the goal for a Swarthmore 1-0 lead. Gettysburg tied the game in the 77th minute as Mike Carracino put home a touch from Aidan Miller. Colton Ward had a long toss into the box, where Miller headed the ball to Carracino for the equalizer.
Charley Ward and
Oliver Garcia had late chances for the Garnet, but were unable to take advantage. Ward's shot was saved by Kevin Muhic, and Garcia shot the ball wide.
In the first overtime, Jack Carroll gathered his own shot that hit the crossbar and put it in to give the Bullets the victory.
Swarthmore held the advantage with 11 shots, while Gettysburg only tallied six shots.

Brandon Cramblit tallied a shot for the Garnet.
The Garnet fall to 11-4-2, while the Bullets improve to 12-4-2. In the NCAA's regional rankings used to determine NCAA Tournament berths, Swarthmore is currently ranked fourth in the Region V. If the season is in fact over for Swarthmore, the Garnet would conclude the 2021 campaign with a .722 win percentage. The team posted a 29-18 (+11) goal differential.
