SWARTHMORE, Pa. - Swarthmore College Field Hockey knocked off No. 19 Haverford College for the second straight time as the Garnet earned a 2-0 victory in the opening round of the Centennial Conference playoffs.
The No. 4 seeded Garnet took the lead with less than five minutes remaining in the opening frame.
Martina Kampel received the insert from
Chelsea Semper, dribbled it around the top of the circle and then fired a reverse shot into the back of the cage. Mid-way through the second frame,
Aron Lankford stopped Delaney Snowden after a penalty corner by the Fords.
Katherine Kohn added an insurance goal in the 36th minute of play for her seventh goal of the year. The freshman forward collected the rebound of her initial shot and put it for Swarthmore two goal lead. Lankford completed the shut out with six saves on eight shots taken by the Fords. In the 56th minute with the Fords pressing, Semper notched an impressive defensive save to keep the Fords scoreless. Haverford held the advantage with six penalty corners compared to three for the Garnet.

Heide Van Voorhis eached tallied a shot for the Garnet.
Swarthmore has advanced to the semifinals of the Centennial Conference Tournament for only the second time in program history. The Garnet will take on top-seeded and nationally ranked No. 2 Johns Hopkins University at 1:00 p.m. on Friday in Baltimore, Md. The last time these two teams faced off, the Blue Jays earned a 2-0 victory on September 25th at Clothier Field Stadium.
